STEPS COUNT BUT SPEED MATTERS…..
I hear a lot from my clients about the amount of walking they do, about the tens of thousands of steps they take each day. This all helps towards getting yourself more active but the SPEED at which those steps are taken really matters.
The recommended amount of low intensity exercise that every adult should do each day is 30mins. This can be broken down into 2x 15min sessions BUT it must be high enough intensity to get you slightly out of breath.
So walking; for all those steps to be classed as exercise and help keep your cardiovascular system in good condition or get you burning body fat then they have to be taken fast enough to get you out of breath. You should still be able to hold a conversation but not be able to sing.
Walking at a more leisurely pace or with a lot of stops such as when out shopping can still be classed as activity but not really exercise.
At Siren Fitness we offer train only sessions if you wanted to get out and find a good paced walk to help improve your fitness, a run buddy to help motivate you on your routes or some new ideas to freshen up your work out.
